Our mobile business sim for Walmart unveiled

Updated: Jun 7, 2019

What if training were as easy as playing a game?

Retail giant Walmart is finding out. Mark Ibbotson, EVP of Central Operations for Walmart U.S., just announced Walmart: The Game, a mobile simulation that leads associates through an array of important customer service tasks.

Gronstedt Group developed the application in association with the company, and we’re proud to be working with such a visionary client committed to blazing new trails in corporate training.

The simulation will be used to train associates of the world’s largest private employer on new processes and special in-store events that can’t be easily recreated, much like VR is used in Walmart Academies. It will initially be rolled out in Walmart’s management training program and will eventually be available to the public.

“You can see how the game is a more interactive and fun way to learn,” Ibbotson said, as he walked associates through a game play demo. He then asked them to help name the game. We already have 800 entries.

Of course, we’re also staying really busy with a series of virtual and augmented reality projects. As you might expect, the new $200 stand-alone Oculus Go VR headsets are rapidly breaking down barriers to deployment.

I’ll be speaking on the conference circuit over the next few weeks and would love a chance to get together:

As always, feel free to contact us any time to discuss how we can unlock impact and value from mobile gaming, VR or AR.
