Micro-learning to reinforce management skills

Google turned to Gronstedt Group to develop a micro-learning program for new managers based on its “mobile-first” philosophy. The result was a series of three-minute reinforcement modules rolled out to new managers after they participate in an instructor-led session. Each video tells a mini-story, followed by an interactive question and follow-up videos demonstrating the consequences of the selected decision. The videos dramatize a conversation between a manager and a team member. They are shot in a vertical aspect ratio to be optimized for mobile viewing. Such micro-learning modules give new managers the opportunity to reinforce the new concepts and put them into practice right away.

We also developed a suite of 30-minute audio podcasts for the New Manager program. Podcasting is an ideal medium to reach new managers when they are on the go, be it commuting to work or working out. The program is modeled on popular talk radio formats. Gronstedt Group scripted interview questions and recorded them with professional voice talent as host and Google managers as “guests.” Managers respond enthusiastically to the conversational nature of this fast-paced and entertaining “theater of the mind.” Podcasts are a powerful peer-to-peer learning tool, where successful managers share their stories.
